Changes are coming to The Home Lottery News – April 2017

CANADA, April 6, 2017 — Here at The Home Lottery News we write a lot about the fundraising lotteries across Canada, and we think you’ll like some of the changes coming up in the next month or so:

  • Quick updates. Sometimes there’s not enough new going on to write up a complete news article, and yet there are still small updates of interest to a lot of our readers. For example, a lottery may reach a sales milestone (50% sold), or publish a new 50/50 jackpot value. We’ll write up very short articles with these updates and they’ll arrive in your email inbox more frequently than other articles. However, we’ll only send them if we feel they’re of interest to you based on what you read on The Home Lottery News.
  • Smarter news emails. Over time, as we send you news about lotteries in your province, our system learns what you tend to read, and also what you don’t read. It will start to send you only the news it thinks you’re likely to want, and leave out most of the news that you don’t read anyways. Our goal is to try to keep you happy with our news without asking you to fill out long surveys about which specific lotteries you’re interested in receiving news about.
  • Simplified news. Sometimes, our news emails carry a lot of factual information about ticket prices, phone numbers, how to order, and so on.  We think it’s better if we just keep that information in one place for each lottery, and we’ll include a link to our references pages’ “how to order” sections. That way, the information will always be current, accurate, and in a location you can bookmark if you want to.
  • More help for charities. We’re reaching out to hospital foundations and the other charities running lotteries and will be writing articles occasional articles about the charities and the good work they do. At the same time, we’ll be looking to run ads on our website from the charities, the lottery suppliers, and other companies that “do good”.  We like Google Ads, and certainly they help support the operation of our news, but it’s difficult and time-consuming to remove all the “spammy” ads and protect our readers from them. We hope to have that solved by placing ads directly from the hundreds of reputable charities and companies we help every day.

“Doing good” is our business, and our daily philosophy. We want to remind you that we welcome comments on our articles, but please don’t ask us customer-service questions in an article comment, or provide personal information you don’t want publicized to the world. As a news agency, we can’t help you directly with these types of questions. However, we’re always willing to help you find a lottery’s customer service phone number or email address, or generally answer any questions you may have.

On the other hand, we really love comments this one, from Louise R., of Fort Saskatchewan:

Congratulations to the winners. I really appreciate receiving an email notifying me of the winners. Usually, I forget about checking the website and never know who has won.

Thanks Louise.

Hi Lydia – the general answer is no; however some provinces will permit you to purchase a ticket if you are physically present in the province when buying it. BC is such an example. There are many provinces where the tickets can only be sold to residents of that province (and they have to be present in the province as well)
