St. Boniface MegaMillion Lotto Sells Out

WINNIPEG,  February 14, 2008 — The St. Boniface Hospital & Research Foundation’s MegaMillion Lotto, Manitoba’s largest charitable Hospital lottery, has sold out for the fourth year in a row. Over $2 million has been raised through the lottery, all of which stays in Manitoba and goes to groundbreaking cardiac research and patient care programs at the St. Boniface Campus.

“The popularity of the MegaMillion Lotto is building each year we hold it, with a sell-out a full seven days earlier than last year,” says John Graham, St. Boniface Lottery Chairperson. “Everyone at the St. Boniface Hospital & Research Foundation is thrilled with the continued success of this fundraising initiative, and we thank all the ticket buyers who support the St. Boniface Campus with their purchase.”

Since the MegaMillion Lotto began running four years ago, $12.9 million has been raised to support new and existing health care initiatives at St. Boniface. St. Boniface Hospital & Research Foundation President and CEO Stuart Murray says community partnerships are what make MegaMillion Lotto such a success.

“We’ve had the opportunity to involve some of Manitoba’s finest retailers in sponsoring the MegaMillion Lotto, with new partnerships this year including Autohaus Porsche, Harley Davidson Winnipeg and Lone Star Motors Mercedes Benz,” says Murray. “And our ongoing relationship with other key partners such as Advance, Safeway and Woodhaven Toyota, among others, allow us to offer better odds of winning a prize, and improve the odds of recovery for critically ill Manitobans.”

The MegaMillion Lotto has an incredible 1 in 12 chance to win. Early bird draws will be held February 28, 2008 with the grand prize draws to follow on March 6, 2008. All winning tickets will be re-entered into all subsequent draws with over 2,000 prizes to be given away. As in past years, the $300,000 grand prize winner will have a 1 in 52 chance to increase their winnings to one-million dollars.

The St. Boniface Hospital & Research Foundation was founded in 1971 and is an integral part of the St. Boniface Campus’ continuing threefold objectives of providing excellence in patient care, education and research. As the primary fundraising organization for St. Boniface General Hospital, the activities of the Foundation remain consistent with its mission of raising funds to provide quality health care research as well as programs for improved quality of life and respect for the individual.
