VANCOUVER, BC, December 11, 2025 — For New Westminster Fire Fighters Local 256 member Rachel, volunteering with the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund has become one of the most meaningful parts of her career. Over the years, she has spent countless hours supporting burn survivors at programs like Burn Camp, and witnessing their growth, confidence, and healing firsthand.
Rachel shares that one of the most powerful experiences for fire fighters is seeing survivors return to Burn Camp year after year. They arrive a little more confident, a little stronger, and a little more healed. Watching their journey unfold over time is a privilege, and a reminder of why these programs matter so deeply.
Fire fighters don’t only see survivors at the moment of their injury. Through the Burn Fund, they get to see the entire journey – from dressing changes and aftercare, to moments of joy, laughter, and belonging. They get to help survivors rediscover community, build friendships, and feel like themselves again.
