Canuck Place is a home away from home. When a child is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, parents are faced with 24/7 care. The Canuck Place medical respite program allows children the opportunity to receive in-hospice clinical care for complex illnesses, pain and symptom management, recreation therapy and counselling, while their families receive much-needed rest, renewal, and support. Through multiple stays in Canuck Place hospices, the care team’s knowledge of patients increases, and they can better understand a child’s evolving symptoms and medical history, as well as individual family needs.
