A new way to play: Obie inspires engagement and connection
At Mount Saint Joseph Hospital Long-Term Care (MSJ LTC), Obie, a sensory interactive gaming projector, lights up the table and floor with colour and sound. Residents are drawn in as they reach, point, and sweep away glowing images, enjoying games designed to spark movement and fun.
With 60 games offering varying difficulty levels, Obie makes it easy for residents with different abilities, including those with moderate to severe dementia, to participate comfortably. The combination of music, lights, and motion creates an inviting environment that naturally encourages interaction, whether playing individually or with up to six residents at a time.
Staff have noticed positive results, including improved engagement, increased social interaction, and sharper cognitive engagement among the residents. “It has been a great addition to our home” notes Andrea, a Rehabilitation Assistant at MSJ LTC. “Residents enjoy the interactive games, and some are excited to show their grandchildren when they come visit.”
Your raffle purchase helps bring innovative and interactive forms of play, like Obie, to MSJ LTC and other long-term care homes across Providence.
