OUR KIDS COUNT

Our Kids Count (OKC) is a community development organization which builds stronger families and inclusive communities by enhancing people’s lives through personal growth and development.  Our core funding is aimed at fostering the health and development of children ages 6 and under. Through other funding sources and community partnerships, OKC provides support to individuals of all ages – men, women, youth (6-12), teens and families with children. We also provide the Big Brothers Big Sisters program which delivers a one to one mentoring program which ensures that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

ROOTS TO HARVEST

Roots to Harvest uses food as a tool to connect people to one another and build belonging and dignity through meaningful programs, initiatives and advocacy. Through supportive employment on urban farms, food literacy programs in high schools and immersive food skills in the kitchen, Roots to Harvest works hard to make sure that there is always room at the table for everyone.

SHELTER HOUSE

Shelter House Thunder Bay (Thunder Bay Emergency Shelter Inc.) provides barrier-free sleeping accommodations for 62 men, women and youth, 365 days of the year. Our organization and facility practice non-partisan views and are tolerant of individuals who are often discarded by society. We believe everyone has tremendous potential. Only in working together can we create a positive change in the lives of those we serve. Community is at the heart of our mission—providing basic needs, dignity and comfort to people living in poverty and stimulate action to address the root cause of homelessness. We support our community through four programs: Emergency Shelter, Feeding Program, Street Outreach Service, Kwae Kii Win Harm-Reduction Focused Transitional Housing.

THE DEW DROP INN (ST. ANDREW’S SOUP KITCHEN)

The Dew Drop Inn (St. Andrew’s Soup Kitchen) has been feeding the hungry in Thunder Bay for 40 years now. During the pandemic we offer a safe and welcoming environment where hungry men, women and children can access two meal options with no questions asked and they are treated with respect and dignity. We are firm believers that everyone deserves a good meal and we strive to be the best we can be. The Dew Drop Inn relies on the support of the community and we simply could not do what we do without that support.
