Purchase a 50/50 ticket and you will be helping West Park patients like Kim Verwaayen, who was enjoying her best life as a university professor in London, Ontario when, in 2017, she was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and just 54 per cent lung function. Her coughing fits were so severe they often left her incapacitated and teaching, even socializing, seemed out of reach.
Kim is a vibrant, energetic woman who says that before her illness she was “always full of life.” She was starting to despair of ever getting back to the woman she was, but luckily received a life-saving referral to West Park’s Respiratory Rehabilitation Service. At West Park she was taught to manage her condition – the key to her recovery – and has since reclaimed both her zest for life and her teaching career.
