Karam Roberts was diagnosed with rheumatoid vasculitis, a severe complication of rheumatoid arthritis, in 2020. Her symptoms began with a bad cough, but quickly escalated to intensive care, hearing loss, ulcers and the inability to bend her fingers or knees. Before she was prescribed medication, she was in excruciating, all-encompassing pain and couldn’t stand or move around independently. She has been unable to return to work due to exhaustion from the four blood infusions she receives tri-annually.

Karam remains hopeful that one day she’ll achieve a level of normalcy that will allow her to hike, scuba dive and ski with her partner again. She is passionate about raising awareness that arthritis can impact anyone, regardless of age, and that it is often an invisible disease.

Soundbeam is an instrument that uses motion sensors to detect movements and turn them into music. Lucy Thomas, a music therapist at St. Vincent’s Langara, uses Soundbeam to help long-term care residents find joy even if they have limited mobility or vocal abilities.

Residents can make music with just a wave of a hand or a wiggle of a toe. Some residents have illnesses or conditions that make movement difficult, so this adaptive technology has a truly positive impact on their quality of life. Enter to Win a 2024 Porsche Cayenne Valued at $126,000

WHISTLER, BC, May 8, 2024 — A recent Deloitte study commissioned by the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) reported that the country’s 61 national sports organizations need an extra C$104 million ($76.61 million) in direct funding annually. (link)

BC Alpine, in conjunction with Alpine Canada, and supported by Porsche Centre Vancouver, are doing something to help the situation in BC through the Driven To Win car raffle to win a 2024 Porsche Cayenne. Net proceeds of the car raffle go to support provincial and national ski racers in BC.
