VANCOUVER, BC, August 21, 2025 — Do you have your St. Paul’s Foundation 50/50 raffle tickets yet? One lucky winner will take home half the jackpot, while the other half will go directly toward supporting patients, long-term care residents, and their families with compassionate, comforting care across BC.

Sleeper Chairs: A place to rest, so family and loved ones can stay close

When a loved one is in the hospital, you want to be by their side – but spending hours in an uncomfortable chair only adds to the exhaustion.

Family members and loved ones are an integral part of a patient’s care team, providing emotional support and comfort in their recovery process. They may help with meals, personal care, translation, communicating important information, and alert medical staff to issues that need attention in critical care situations.

Some loved ones come from out-of-town and are at the patient’s bedside for many hours, and some will even stay overnight. Sleeper chairs, which can be converted into a flat bed, allow family members and visitors to lie down and rest comfortably by the patient’s side instead of travelling back and forth from home or their hotel.

Thanks to raffle supporters like you, family members have a comfortable place to recharge – so they can take care of themselves while staying strong for the ones they love.

Play the St. Paul's Foundation 50/50 raffle and win.

VANCOUVER, BC, August 15, 2025 — Don’t miss out on your chance to buy tickets for St. Paul’s Foundation’s 50/50 raffle! One lucky winner will take home half the jackpot, while the other half will go directly toward supporting patients, long-term care residents, and their families with compassionate, comforting care – today, and for years to come.

Building community through cultural practices and inclusion

Providence in the Park is a bi-annual outreach event hosted by Providence Health Care staff with participation by community partners in the Downtown Eastside. This event brings our health care teams into the community to build bridges and relationships, and to provide items like clothing, toiletries, blankets, food, and eyewear.

By meeting people where they are – before they ever need to visit a hospital or care facility – we foster trust, inclusion, and familiarity. These early connections help patients and residents feel seen, supported, and safe, laying the groundwork for stronger, more effective care.

Within this event, respectful cultural practices, such as the wisdom of an Indigenous elder and the powerful beats of a drum circle, go beyond tradition – they’re powerful expressions of honour and care, inviting everyone to gather, connect, and feel seen.

An estimated 31% of residents in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside identify as Indigenous, a population that still experiences racism and discrimination within the health care system.

Your raffle participation brought Squamish Elder Dennis Joseph to open the event, and supported a drum circle performance by the Indigenous Women Rise Drum Group. This culturally safe programming is helping Providence in the Park show respect while building trust and recognition within the community.
