The Canadian Cancer Society dedicates 100% of the net Lottery proceeds to research into all types of cancer, benefiting people all across Ontario. The Society’s successes include discovering:
- that the gene mutation that causes retinoblastoma, a cancer of the eye, allowing for earlier diagnosis and treatment
- that medulloblastoma, a childhood brain cancer, has 4 distinct subtypes. Now, treatment is personalized to improve survival and reduce side effects.
- vinblastine, a drug that is instrumental in treating certain types of childhood lymphoma and brain cancer
The proceeds from the Wheels of Hope 50/50 Raffle are dedicated to the Transportation Program at the Canadian Cancer Society, providing cancer patients with rides to their treatment appointments.
