Manitoba 50/50 ticket purchasers will help ensure Special Olympics Manitoba and Variety, the Children’s Charity of Manitoba can provide direct assistance to individuals living with a disability in Manitoba, by promoting inclusion and ability, and providing equipment, supplies and services not funded anywhere else.

(Ben – Age  15)

Special Olympics Manitoba (SOM) has allowed Ben to participate in sport at his pace, and “has given him opportunities to get out of his comfort zone”, his mom Corrie shared. When asked why other parents should get their children involved with SOM, Corrie explained that SOM gives Ben his place, “there is a gap in other programming” she added. This opportunity has been a game changer for Ben, he has come out of his shell, and this has become a huge part of our lives”. Once, in-person programming returns, Ben is excited to get back in the pool and excel in what he loves to do.

(Ianess – Age 4)

Variety child Ianess, is a happy 4 year old girl who is living with speech development delays. She communicates using gestures and other non-verbal cues. Early intervention is absolutely key to helping Ianess develop speech.

Her family immigrated to Canada 4 years ago, and are working hard but the cost of private speech therapy was just too much for them. 

Since June 2020, Variety has funded weekly speech therapy sessions which will support her to imitate speech sounds, actions and increase her vocalizations so she can start the development of language.
