SASKATCHEWAN, Thursday, March 20, 2025 — Meet 17-year-old, Shadyn. Shadyn is an adventurous spirit who loves paddleboarding, camping, and dreams of becoming a nurse. Diagnosed at 16 with pulmonary hypertension, a condition causing increased blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs, Shadyn faced challenges like breathlessness and fainting before starting intensive medication. 

Her wish to be a marine biologist for the day led her to an unforgettable experience at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma, Washington. “The joy on her face feeding the sea turtles and walruses, and when a tiny shrimp started cleaning her fingernails, was priceless,” said her mom, Melanie. The wish created memories her family will cherish forever.

SASKATCHEWAN, Thursday, March 13, 2025 — Every two hours in Canada, a child is diagnosed with a critical illness.

Meet nine-year-old, Harlyn. Harlyn loves swimming, gymnastics, friends, and staying up late. Harlyn’s lives with a nervous system disorder and was diagnosed when tumours were discovered on her optic nerves. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she underwent 18 months of weekly chemotherapy. The success of these treatments stopped the tumour growth and allowed her to reduce MRI visits while still maintaining specialist appointments. 

Harlyn’s wish to visit West Edmonton Mall took place in late 2023 and following the experience, she declared, “It’s the best birthday ever!” At the World Waterpark, she enjoyed the wave pool and the popular Tropical Typhoon waterslide. She also had the chance to explore the enormous mall and found her favourite gummy bears and sour candies at the sweet shop, IT’SUGAR. 

Harlyn’s parents, Kara and Alan, said the entire wish experience was special and even the smallest details were customized for their daughter. For the first time in a long time, the wish allowed Harlyn to delight in life as a child. “She is a strong, confident, inspirational girl, and we are very proud of her,” Kara said.

Meet five-year-old, Tatum. Tatum likes cheering on the Vancouver Canucks with his dad Michael, kicking up dust on his quad, and loves trains, trucks, and police cars. His collection of dicast cars keeps him busy at home and besides loving things that move, Tatum’s favourite superhero is Spider-Man.

At birth, Tatum was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a condition where the liver’s ducts are blocked and can’t carry bile to the gallbladder. Little Tatum underwent an operation to correct the blockage, and when that procedure wasn’t successful, he received a liver transplant two years later. Tatum relies on immunosuppressant drugs to prevent his body from rejecting his liver.

Tatum’s love of trains and his beloved superhero dictated his decision to visit his favourite Florida theme park. He made sure he rode every train ride, but the moment he met Spider-Man, his eyes lit up with pure joy and excitement. “Seeing my son so happy and to be at a place that was full of fun is like nothing he’s ever experienced,” his mom Shauna said. “We will forever cherish every minute of the wish”.

Meet 18-year-old, Teigha from Southern Saskatchewan. Teigha loves all things pink, singing in choir, and spending time with friends. In September 2022, the teen was diagnosed with primary B-cell lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system. The teen bravely endured months of chemotherapy, finding solace and strength in her favourite music, which became a constant source of comfort during her most challenging days. 

Teigha has always hoped to see her favourite artist in concert, a desire rooted in countless hours spent singing along to every lyric. That wish came true when she and her family travelled to Atlanta, Georgia for an unforgettable concert experience. Reflecting on her wish, Teigha shared, “We are so grateful to have been given the opportunity to go to Atlanta. We have memories to last a lifetime!”

Meet 12-year-old Brayden who lives with a nervous system disorder. Brayden is unable to communicate verbally but he enjoys watching his siblings in their sporting endeavours. Despite the demands of frequent medical appointments and ongoing care, Brayden is surrounded by unwavering love and support from his family who are his greatest champions. 
 
In late 2022, Brayden, his mom Ramona, and his siblings embarked on an unforgettable journey to sunny Florida. From the moment their adventure began, the family felt truly special. Brayden experienced the joy of riding numerous attractions, meeting some of his favourite characters, and soaking in the atmosphere of the theme parks. To make the trip even more memorable, the family took a scenic drive to Cocoa Beach, where they touched the ocean water together. “The overall trip was amazing, full of wonderful memories we will keep forever in our hearts,” said Ramona.

SASKATCHEWAN, Friday, February 14, 2025 — Every two hours a child in Canada is diagnosed with a critical illness.   

Meet nine year old Theo, from Central Saskatchewan. Theo was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a condition where the liver’s ducts are blocked and can’t carry bile to the gallbladder. At just 15 months old he received a liver transplant and since then he’s relied on immunosuppressant drugs to prevent his body from rejecting his new liver. 

After years of hospital admissions, tests and treatment, Theo wanted to be whisked away on an airplane to a place that would cater to a child’s imagination and desires. His special wish to visit his favourite Florida theme park took place in late 2022.  

Theo had a blast on the theme park rides and revelled in the special treatment he received at the resort. Andrel said the resort staff made the family feel at home and showered Theo with treats and attention. 

 “It was such a huge blessing,” Theo’s mom Andrel said of the wish. “Theo was so young when he had his transplant and we are so thankful for his health, but we went through some hard times.”
