Pediatric Comfort Kits: a small treasure that has a big impact on care

For a child in pain, the emergency department can feel like an unfamiliar world: bright lights, strange sounds, new faces, and the uncertainty of what comes next. Every moment can feel endless, adding to their distress – and their parents’ worry.

Because of raffle supporters like you, pediatric comfort kits can be provided to help relax children through distraction and play, as well as provide an outlet for creativity and communication. The comfort kits include fun items like colouring books and crayons, stickers, card games, squeeze toys, and bubble wands.

The Emergency Department at Mount Saint Joseph has had the largest growth in pediatric visits in the region; currently about 10% of daily visits are from young patients. At the Teck Emergency Centre at St. Paul’s Hospital, there were 1,673 pediatric visits last year – a 75% jump compared to the average over the past decade.

These kits are helping our health care teams deliver faster, compassionate care – enabling young patients to find relief, heal more quickly, and return home sooner.

Jackpot over $260,000 – Lights of Hope 50/50

VANCOUVER, BC, November 29, 2025 — The jackpot is growing, get your Lights of Hope 50/50 raffle tickets now. One lucky winner will take home half the jackpot, while the other half will go directly toward supporting patients, long-term care residents, and their families with compassionate, comforting care across BC.

Breast prostheses: Restoring strength and self-assurance after mastectomy

A mastectomy is more than just a physical change. It’s a deeply personal journey of healing and resilience.

The Providence Breast Centre at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital performs 1,200 breast cancer surgeries each year — more than any other hospital in the province, making up 68% of all breast cancer surgeries in Vancouver.

Your raffle purchase helps fund care items for mastectomy patients. One of the items are known as ‘fluffies’: they are soft, lightweight, and comfortable breast prostheses that can be a crucial part of the sensitive post-surgery recovery period. They serve as a temporary solution before a patient is fitted for a permanent prosthesis or undergoes reconstructive surgery.

Designed to be gentle on healing skin, fluffies provide immediate support and comfort, allow clothing to fit naturally, and help patients adapt to the changes in their body post-mastectomy. By encouraging self-confidence, they also promote physical activity and social connections, empowering patients to embrace life.

With your raffle support, mastectomy patients can reclaim comfort, confidence, and the freedom to feel at home in their bodies.

A humble hallmark of the compassionate care offered to patients and residents throughout Providence.

Tickets are available for purchase until Dec 5, 2025. The winner will be drawn on Dec 9, 2025. Ticket bundles are available to increase your chances of winning!

Your Chance to Win Big—Lights of Hope 50/50 Raffle

VANCOUVER, BC, November 20, 2025 — Do you have your Lights of Hope 50/50 raffle tickets yet? One lucky winner will take home half the jackpot, while the other half will go directly toward supporting patients, long-term care residents, and their families with compassionate, comforting care across BC.

St. Paul’s Hospital is a provincial referral centre for some of the province’s most complex cases. Many patients have chronic health issues and require a specialized care team of medical professionals to address their needs.

The Clothing Depot provides patients with complex medical and social needs the dignity they deserve.

When patients visit St. Paul’s Hospital, sometimes the only clothes they own – which may be greatly worn, soiled or threadbare – are removed and disposed of. Other patients are here for a short stay and don’t have friends or family who are able to bring clothes to the hospital quickly.

The Clothing Depot ensures patients are discharged in new, clean, and weather-appropriate clothing to better support their health and to promote feelings of personal value, dignity, and self-worth. Sometimes, this simple act of care is one of the most appreciated.

Thanks to raffle supporters like you, Providence Health Care’s Clothing Depot continues to provide essential clothing to patients in need, preserving their dignity. All departments across St. Paul’s Hospital have access to this program. So far this year, the Clothing Depot has been accessed over 1,100 times and provided 5,710 items of clothing to patients.

A humble hallmark of the compassionate care offered to patients and residents throughout Providence.

Sleeper Chairs: A place to rest, so family and loved ones can stay close

When a loved one is in the hospital, you want to be by their side – but spending hours in an uncomfortable chair only adds to the exhaustion.

Family members and loved ones are an integral part of a patient’s care team, providing emotional support and comfort in their recovery process. They may help with meals, personal care, translation, communication, and alert medical staff to issues that need attention in critical care situations.

Some loved ones come from out-of-town and are at the patient’s bedside for many hours. Sleeper chairs, which can be converted into a flat bed, allow family members and visitors to lie down and rest comfortably by the patient’s side.

Thanks to raffle supporters like you, family members have a comfortable place to recharge – so they can take care of themselves while staying strong for the ones they love.

Win BIG with the Lights of Hope 50/50 raffle.

VANCOUVER, BC, November 5, 2025 — Try your luck in Lights of Hope 50/50 raffle! One lucky winner will take home half the jackpot, while the other half will go directly toward supporting patients, long-term care residents, and their families with compassionate, comforting care – today, and for years to come.

Patients travel safely home and give back to their local communities with the Pay It Forward Walker Program

The Heart Centre at St. Paul’s Hospital treats the most complex cardiac patients from around BC and the Yukon. Many patients arrive via air ambulance and are unable to bring their walking/mobility aids due to flight space restrictions.

If patients don’t have family members that can come to Vancouver and bring their mobility aid, the usual solution is for patients to rent a device from the Red Cross. But if they are ready for discharge after the Red Cross closes on a Friday, then the patient is essentially ‘stranded’ in Vancouver over the weekend – and occupying an acute care bed.

Enter the ‘Pay it Forward’ walker program.

The Heart Centre gives patients a walker upon discharge, and the patient then ‘pays it forward’ by donating that walker to the Red Cross when they return to their home community.

Your raffle purchase will help patients travel safely home, regain a sense of independence, and contribute back to their local community.

A humble hallmark of the compassionate care offered to patients and residents throughout Providence.
