Last call for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation It’s Critical 50/50!

Ticket sales end tonight at midnight! Don’t wait!

VICTORIA, BC, February 28, 2021 — For the first time, the Victoria Hospitals Foundation (VHF) is hosting an online public 50/50 lottery, presented by Engel & Völkers LeBlanc Piercy Group. The jackpot has surpassed $185,000 and continues to grow quickly! Half of the jackpot will go to the winner with the other half supporting their It’s Critical campaign. With the urgent need for increased critical care capacity, this campaign aims to raise $7 million to help fund the construction of a new permanent, purpose-built 8-bed High Acuity Unit (HAU) at Royal Jubilee Hospital, a first for Island Health.

Without HAUs, the pressure placed on adjacent departments—like acute care units and Emergency Departments—is heightened when hospitals respond to threats like COVID-19. With over 40% of their patients coming from outside of Greater Victoria, increasing critical care capacity in their hospitals will benefit all 850,000+ Island residents.

Ticket packs can be purchased here at 1 for $10, 3 for $25, 10 for $50, or 50 for $200. The total number of tickets for sale is 75,000. Tickets may be sold and purchased only in British Columbia and purchasers must be 19 years of age or older. For more information about the rules of play please click here.

The Pregnancy Hub virtual prenatal program launches in response to the pandemic.

BC, February 3, 2021 — Pregnant people across B.C. are struggling to access services or find support that used to come naturally prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.  

BC Association of Pregnancy Outreach Programs (BCAPOP) responded to this need by launching The Pregnancy Hub in September 2020.  This virtual prenatal education program is free, open to all pregnant people in B.C., and can be accessed from the comfort and safety of home. The service delivers evidence-based information while also connecting participants to local community supports.

The Pregnancy Hub provides online live prenatal, healthy eating, and post-partum classes that are taught by a variety of professionals. It also offers a space for pregnant people to connect during a time when many are staying home and in person supports are limited. Being pregnant during a pandemic is an ever-evolving experience that leads to increased feelings of isolation and disconnection from one’s community; The Pregnancy Hub exists to mitigate these experiences.

BCAPOP is fundraising for The Pregnancy Hub by hosting its first virtual 50/50 draw that closes at 11:59pm on February 24th.
