The annual fundraiser for Writers’ Exchange (WE) and Battered Women’s Support Services (BWSS) offers a chance to win up to $10,000 while supporting children’s literacy and safety within in our communities. Organized by independent bookstore Massy Books, this 50/50 fundraiser donates 100% of proceeds raised to BWSS and WE. Tickets are accessibly priced, and the draw date is right before Christmas! Simply buy tickets through the raffle fundraiser page. Ticket bundle options allow you to adjust according to your budget. Open to residents of British Columbia, 50% of proceeds go to a lucky winner (could it be you?), while the other 50% go directly into supporting victims of abuse and children’s literacy programs.
The Writer’s Exchange in Vancouver provides literacy programs to over 700 kids every year, boosting their reading, writing and self-confidence. They help children get excited about their own potential through creative literacy programs including after-school and in-school programs. Their exciting projects build skills in social and dynamic ways, helping the upcoming generation become inspired and equipped to create meaningful change. During Covid-19, it is important we put extra resources into supporting children’s emotional, social, and educational development. Every ticket purchase ensures we are doing just that.
The Battered Women’s Support Services (BWSS) provides support to women experiencing gender-based violence, and their services are more important than ever during COVID-19 with increased stress and isolation resulting in increases in domestic abuse. BWSS run a crisis-line, counselling, victim services, legal advocacy, violence prevention, intervention volunteer training, and specific programs for Indigenous, Black, and Latin women.
Each of these registered Canadian charities work tirelessly with specific members of our communities and their work is unparalleled. Massy Books runs this fundraiser, donating administrative and associated costs, and ensuring 100% of proceeds go directly to WE and BWSS. Your ticket purchase helps bring supplies and educators into underfunded schools and after-school programs, giving kids creative tools to share their imagination through writing. Your ticket purchase enables BWSS to keep its crisis-line open, which is the first point of contact for women experiencing abuse.
