VANCOUVER, BC, May 4, 2023 — Try your luck in St. Paul’s Foundation’s Spring 50/50 raffle. One lucky winner will take home half the jackpot, while the other half will go directly toward supporting patients, long-term care residents, and their families with compassionate, comforting care across BC.
Residents living with dementia are often stigmatized as extremely forgetful and not able to carry out basic functions. Yet, residents with mild to moderate dementia are still able to participate in simple meal prep and cooking tasks with supervision and guidance.
Cooking program affords a sense of pride, motivation and confidence
The Therapeutic Cooking Program at Mount St. Joseph Hospital has brought many benefits to seniors living with dementia. Cooking is a very familiar act that many residents performed daily in the past. Preparing food and actively cooking can be very therapeutic as it stimulates the senses, allowing residents to recall past cooking experiences from their long-term memory.
Thanks to raffle supporters like you, the Therapeutic Cooking Program is able to provide an environment for residents to work and interact together, sharing stories and memories about cooking. This helps to alleviate the feeling of boredom, helplessness, and loneliness that often comes with living away from the family home.
Another humble hallmark of the compassionate care offered to patients and residents throughout Providence.
