VANCOUVER, BC, Friday, April 23, 2021 — When you get your Hometown Heroes Lottery tickets, you’re in to win over 3,200 prizes, including 1 of 9 Grand Prize options – such as a $2.6 million home package, or $2.1 million tax-free cash.
This year’s lottery could be your ticket to becoming a multi-millionaire, and to becoming a hero yourself – because every ticket changes a life.
With your purchase, you are supporting a great cause, raising vital funds for VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation and the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund.
“Cancer surgery, organ transplants, hip and knee replacements, and so much more: these medical needs didn’t pause when the pandemic hit,” says Angela Chapman, President and CEO, VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation. “People from across BC count on specialized care that our front line heroes provide at VGH, UBC Hospital, and GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre.”

BC’s Hometown Heroes come to the aid of people in life-threatening situations every day. From rescue to recovery, BC’s front line workers and first responders – our fire fighters, along with the doctors, nurses and health care teams at Vancouver General Hospital – are always on duty for critically ill and severely injured British Columbians.
When you need help, these heroes respond. Now, more than ever, our heroes need your support.
“COVID-19 has brought many new challenges for our health care teams, but with support from British Columbians, our researchers and medical teams – who treat patients from across BC – have done a tremendous job looking after the patients in their care,” says Chapman.
Every year, VGH performs more than 30,000 surgeries and treats more than 600,000 patient visits. The hospital treats 60% of British Columbia’s adult trauma cases – and 50% of VGH’s surgical patients are from outside Vancouver.
Foundation fundraising – such as the Hometown Heroes Lottery – serves the Vancouver Coastal Health system, which sees over 94,000 emergency room visits each year.
“Lotteries have provided funds to equip our world-class health care teams with the tools and the technology they need to provide the best care possible,” says Chapman.
“On behalf of the Foundation, thank you to everyone who supports the Hometown Heroes Lottery. You are vital to providing the most specialized health care and medicine for all British Columbians.”

Of course, funds raised from Hometown Heroes Lottery ticket purchases also support programs of the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund, including burn survivor support services and resiliency programs for fire fighters.
More than 4,000 professional fire fighters from 53 communities in British Columbia and the Yukon champion the Burn Fund’s vision, and the Burn Fund is dedicated to supporting burn survivors through their recovery journeys.
“Over the past year, most of our fundraising events were cancelled due to the pandemic. For this reason, funds raised by the Hometown Heroes Lottery are extremely important; they go towards our burn prevention programs, vital survivor services, and enhanced care for burn survivors,” said Gord Ditchburn, President of the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund.
“These programs and services help burn and trauma survivors recover both physically and emotionally. The Burn Fund can only do this because of the extreme generosity of British Columbians.”
