About AutismBC

AutismBC is a small, non-profit charity that encourages inclusion and acceptance for the entire autism community. We value lived experience and prioritize listening so we can make decisions that reflect the community’s needs and wants.

We are a grassroots organization founded in 1975 to support people on the autism spectrum and their families. Since our humble beginnings, we have grown to become one of the most trusted non-profit organizations for autism in BC. We support the community by providing parents and communities with knowledge and by engaging with people on the autism spectrum to create stronger, more diverse communities.

Today in BC, 1 in 32 children receive an autism spectrum diagnosis and there are over 22,000 children on the autism spectrum.  Autistic children grow up to be autistic adults and AutismBC continues to make progress in developing programs and providing supports for children, adults and their loved ones.

The AutismBC programs have become my lifeline, I attend the monthly community support group meetings and I appreciate the professional people who come to share information, I learn something at every meeting.  I also attend the social meetup events; these are high priority for me. Meeting other families who share similar circumstances is encouraging, enlightening and supportive.

Every story is unique and I always pick up some information that is helpful for my circumstances. It is so comforting to know I am not alone on this journey. Through my journey with AutismBC I have been empowered to enrich many aspects of my grandchild’s life.”
